Now before you think – Vinegar?!! Who the hell drinks vinegar?!! Let me tell you a little more about it.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has been around for more than 2000 years, due to its virtues of having amazing culinary and healing properties.
Even today scientists continue to study its health and nutritional benefits. It has been discovered that the Father of Modern Medicine – Hippocrates, used apple cider vinegar as a cleansing and healing agent.
The Babylonians (3000 B.C.) used it as a condiment and preservative, while Julius Caesar’s army used it as a tonic to stay healthy and fight off disease. Meanwhile the Greeks and Romans kept vinegar vessels for healing and flavoring. Even Christopher Columbus and his crew on his voyage to discover America in 1492 had their vinegar barrels for prevention of scurvy as did the soldiers in the American Civil War. For centuries in Japan, the feared Samurai warriors drank it for strength and power.
Studies show Apple Cider Vinegar to be effective in helping control blood glucose and insulin levels by reducing the Glycemic Index of food consumed. It is also known for its weight loss and diabetics support.
Explains New York City registered dietitian Jessica Cording
“Apple cider vinegar has been studied for its potential role in blood sugar management, appetite control, and digestion, as well as immune function. The unpasteurized version contains some probiotics, whereas pasteurized varieties don’t.”
Recognized nutritionist Beth Warren, says the antibacterial properties found in apple cider vinegar can also “help lessen the risk of infections and may help soothe sore throats.”
Prebiotics is found in Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar contains prebiotics from the fermented apples. These prebiotics contain pectin, which are essential for good digestion as they support the growth of probiotics in the gut.
Explains Warren –
“Probiotics help promote a healthy gut which is the home to 70 percent of your immune system. Prebiotics, such as apple cider vinegar, are considered the ‘food’ for probiotics—without them, the good bacteria can’t grow.”
